Ray only works in blackwood and nickel silver, and makes sets in 'F', G and D pitch. He regards the style handed down from Robert Reid as his main influence, with his own aesthetic and stylistic adjustments. He will not work with real ivory.
He will only repair his own customers pipes, though he may agree to work on antique pipes, or those of interest to him. This is due to pressure of work, and potential customers are advised to enquire.
He has been making Northumbrian smallpipes for about 16 years, and they constitute about half of his business. He also makes Scottish smallpipes in A, Bb, C, and D, and Uillean pipes.
He is accepting orders, but delivery time is currently indefinite. Potential customers should contact Ray for the latest position. No initial deposit is required, but £50 is requested when work is started, with the balance on completion, prior to delivery. His prices include cases. He strongly recommends that customers discuss their detailed needs with him to ensure that they purchase the correct instrument.
