It contains a complete listing from the earliest recording in 1928 to approximately 1988. Much of the material is long deleted and extremely difficult to obtain. Readers are directed to their nearest specialist second-hand record dealer for advice.
Burt wrote:
" I've arranged the recordings by artist and group. Within each entry, I first list 78 rpm disks, eps and lps featuring the artist or group. I then list anthologies in which the performers appear. That is followed by recordings on which the perforrners appear as accompanists. When artists have recorded cassette tapes that are not duplicates of phonodiscs, I have listed such tapes as a separate category. When I've had the information, I've listed release dates for items, and I've endeavoured to list entries chronologically, starting with the earliest."
Recorded artists are in alphabetical order.
